Good morning, here is the News:
Team Meeting—Thursday, 10 January 2013, 6-7pm in the
Mira Mesa Senior Center. That's this Thursday. Our Assistant
Team Leader Jennifer Tang, who is a licensed EMT, will be doing a wound care
review. We should have the Academy training module available, so you
don't need any supplies to speak of, but if you want to try out some of your
own stuff by all means bring it in. Please be on time, and plan to
stay a bit late. I will be absent for this meeting, please give
Jennifer your support.
DSW Applications—I don't THINK anyone got past us,
but if you graduated from Academy in the last year, and you believe you
qualified for your DSW card last month (you need two team meetings and two CEs)
please contact Jennifer right away at zhinan@gmail.com
and let her know. Deadline for December filings is this Friday, and it
takes some time to work an application up, so don't delay if you think you are
there.
February Team Meeting—Sunday, 10 February,
4:30-5:30. Currently we are booked into the Senior Center, but that may
change. We plan to work with the new flood control module from
FEMA. That mainly involves filling sand bags, transporting those bags,
then building a suitable retaining wall. There are detailed instructions
for all of this, but obviously we have never done it before. I think
we're going to need at least 1/2 yard of sand, minimum 100 sand bags, shovels,
plastic tarp and some place to build this wall where they will let us do a
little digging. We've got several big materials companies in the
neighborhood, any of which could come up with the sand and probably the
venue. If anyone has ideas or contacts please let me or Jen Know.
I'm going to start putting this together next week, if it doesn't move along
we'll switch to something else.
